TRAVEL TRYOUTS & PRIVATE SCHOOL SPRING BREAK
Every year we receive questions about the impact of private school breaks on the travel process and why we cannot schedule tryouts for a different time period. As a program, we have children in private schools throughout Westchester and Fairfield counties, whose vacation schedules range from the first week of March to the last. We do our best to post the tryout schedule by early October so that families with children in private school can schedule vacations around the tryout schedule. With individual tryouts usually completed within a week, families have an opportunity to make most of the tryouts and still get away if they want. As we say every year, we encourage all players to make as many tryouts as they can but we do understand that family obligations may get in the way. We leave room on the original rosters to allow for upward player movement. The rosters are not finalized until 2 or 3 weeks after tryouts, during which we continue to evaluate all players through our house program, 7/8 Senior teams and B travel teams.
The website and email are our primary communication channels. Always check the home page, your team page and your email for schedule information prior to heading to the fields, especially if you have any question about the weather. Emails are generated and sent for all changes to the schedule, and you can link your calendars online to your player(s) schedules through the website. It is vital that you have correct email addresses listed so that you receive our communications. You can add/edit/delete emails and other contact information by going to "Edit My Account" on the website and logging in to your account.
Boys at all ages are required to play with full gear, which includes a stick, helmet (may be a hockey helmet), gloves, shoulder and arm pads, a cup and a mouth guard for boys 3rd - 8th. Girls at all ages are required to have a girls stick, face mask and mouth guard.
For those of you who are new to the program, you may not know this but DHS appears to have its own polar vortex, primarily in March and April. Dress accordingly. Please add layers, it always feels 10-20 degrees colder on the oval than it does in your driveway.
